Pretreatment
The District is responsible for using an Industrial Pretreatment Program to control any pollutants generated by industries within the sewer service area. This program requires industries to certify that their wastewater meets national pretreatment standards before discharging the industrial flow into the District's collection system. If necessary, the District has the authority to prevent any industrial discharge into its treatment system.
The end result is that pollutants that could interfere with or pass through without treatment are not allowed into the system. All costs associated with pretreatment are recovered from the industrial users of the program.
