POSITION TITLE: OPERATOR II           DEPARTMENT: OPERATIONS        

GENERAL DESCRIPTION and SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under general supervision, performs responsible technical work in the operation and minor maintenance of equipment at the treatment facilities on an assigned shift. Work involves operating and maintaining treatment plant equipment; operating and making adjustments as needed on plant operational equipment to ensure maximum efficiency; performing general routine or highly repetitive duties involving choice of action within limits defined by standard practices and instructions and decision making that may affect accuracy of functional results.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment and wastewater treatment equipment and laboratory equipment including pH meters, microscopes, pumps, computers, calculators, water pumps, etc. Must be able to exert up to 110 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  Physical demand requirements: must be able to walk, stand, bend, reach, lift and stoop.

SKILLS or QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Requires a High School Diploma, or equivalent, with two to three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Centrifuge operational experience preferred. Shift work and rotating schedule experience preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a Class "C" Wastewater Treatment Operator's Certificate. Must have a valid South Carolina motor vehicle license.

RATE PER HOUR: $17.69                                 SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION
